On Saturday, we were picked up at 6 am to fly to our language training site. On the way there, we stopped by the hospital compound to drop off some other visitors. A whole group of workers from the hospital came out to meet us. It was so fun to finally be able to put some faces with names! And, I got a brief look around our future home! It is great...about twice the size of our condo in Seattle. :)
We then flew on to the city where we will be doing our language training. The compound residents (M, F, and R) have been very gracious and hospitable- bringing us all sorts of groceries and even some fresh baked bread, still warm from the bread machine! After arriving, we took a short nap, before heading to the local "club" with R. The club used to be a school and then turned into a club with a pool, tennis courts, playground, soccer field, and volleyball court. The pool and tennis courts are still used and they also serve hamburgers and other "fast food." We'll have to come back and try out the food sometime. As you can see, we had the place to ourselves, basically.
The gift of groceries from our hosts/guides.
A generic version of Pringles, called Kracks.
Tab relaxing by the pool at the country club.
The club.
A guy came and served us water, ice water. It came in plastic soda bottles with the screw on lids. They had been used previously, probably many times previously. Our guide assured us that it was safe to drink.
