Day One
Jet lag! We both woke up around 4am even before the call to prayer around 4:30. Our neighbors shared some bread with us from the bakery across the street and some homemade peanut butter which was delicious! Along with some Nescafé it made for some tasty breakfast. The sun rises around 7 and it is a hot ball of fire in the sky! No clouds! We spent the morning doing paperwork- we each had to hand-write our will in French. Any mistakes and you had to start all over again (this happened a few times)! Then we went shopping at a shop about the size if a small convenience store. We picked up some butter, cheese, and mosquito repellent lotion (they didn't have spray). We later confirmed by using google that the active ingredient on the label, diethyltoluamide is, indeed, DEET). As a treat, we bought some orange and citron Fanta to have with lunch, but didn't quite work up the courage to try ordering lunch in another language. :) The rest of our day was pretty uneventful...we took naps and re-packed our containers to be sent by bus to our language training site. Two more of our bags came in today...so now we are missing just one. We are a little worried that the routing tape from the airline came off our bag and our luggage is floating around somewhere without a label. But, maybe it will come in tomorrow. :)
