A Saturday Sabbath

Saturdays can be wonderful around here. When I'm not on call, we can sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, and go to the pool. Yes, we have a pool! The pool is a round, concrete structure about 25 feet in diameter and 4-5 feet deep in the middle. It not much by some standards, but we enjoy it immensely. It is a wonderful way to cool off, relax, and swim circular "laps" without worrying about hitting your head when you get to the end of the pool. Luke's new favorite thing to do at the pool is throw the water bugs to the lizards! It's quite entertaining watching the lizards scamper over and gobble them up.

Luke scooping out water bugs to feed the lizards...much more efficient than using his hands!

On Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons Luke plays Age of Empires with the guys...and I relax and read a book or do some baking. Today, I made tortillas then fried some up to make chips. When Luke got home, we used fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, and a lime off the tree in the front yard to make some salsa. The salsa turned out to be more delicious than I had hoped (even without cilantro). We put it all together with some cheese and, voila, some pretty amazing nachos!

Delicious, all from scratch nachos! If they weren't so labor-intensive,we would probably eat them every day. We miss being able to by a $2 bag of tortilla chips from Wal-mart!

Nachos!

We saw this "fun family vegetable" apron/oven mitt set at a store in the 'big  city.'  Makes us smile.  :)
